The Company
20 years of working for the environment
The Helsinki Metropolitan Area Reuse Centre offers an alternative for single-use culture. In our stores you will find usable and unique items and get information on environmentally friendly consumer choices.
The Helsinki Metropolitan Area Reuse Centre is a non-profit organization working for the benefit of the community. Its mission is to improve the state of the environment by decreasing the amount of waste people produce, and by increasing their environmental awareness. The Reuse Centre operates on five premises in the metropolitan area: one each in Vantaa and Espoo, and three in Helsinki. At these sites, you can find useful products at reasonable prices, as well as information about less environmentally damaging modes of consumption.
We accept donations of usable items. You can either bring them to our stores or ask us to pick them up. We sell or give out donated items.
A key part of our concept is to provide a benefit to the community by building environmental awareness especially among people, companies, and organizations in the Helsinki metropolitan area. To reach this goal, the Reuse Centre provides, and markets advice and training services.
We provide these advice and training services for both individuals in need of advice, as well as organizations requiring consulting services. The Reuse Centre produces its own environmental awareness events and materials with the resources available to it. These resources derive from selling reused items. Part of this income is used for providing environmental training.
We are also a social enterprise: many of our employees have previously been long-term unemployed. We provide environmental advice to 30 000 children, youngsters and educators each year.
